Genesis is on a roll and is showing no signs of stopping-BMW is shaking in their seats. If you recall when the 2021 G80 was released and exceeded expectations in luxury, styling, and technology- Ahhhh, those were the days. Well, all of us loyal Genesis owners, as well as potential new owners, didn’t know how they were going to top this model, but the new and improved 2022 Genesis G80 has had work done in the sport department as well as the suspension tuning. The arrival of the 2022 G80 Sport comes with the automaker’s 1st application of rear steering, going along with the standard all-wheel drive as well as a sport tuned suspension system. SPORT MODE
Sport mode is the sweet spot for combining a comforting ride with control as well as eliminating the suspension communication problems. The addition of the rear-wheel steering allows the rear wheels to turn up to 4.0 degrees opposite of the front wheels below 37 mph and when above 37 mph, the fronts are moved up to 2.0 degrees. Unfortunately, this system doesn’t have the ability to disconnect the front wheels as a way to increase fuel economy or enable a drift mode. This system also is not able to shuffle power side to side. These are a couple of abilities that the BMW 540i has that the 2022 G80 doesn’t. The G80, though, makes up for it by allowing the car to go 0-60 mph in the 4.0 second range, which is on par with the BMW 540i.
2022 G80 SPORT EXTERIOR
If you have a soft spot for the 2021 G80 exterior image, then you shouldn’t worry too much about how the 2022 G80 exterior has changed. The 2022 G80 exterior only had minor exterior design changes from the 2021 G80 model. The 2022 G80 has maintained the previous model’s clean lines which pair nicely with the updated front fascia that features extra intakes as well as a new mesh pattern finished in the color shadow chrome. Exterior of the G80 also features darkened headlight bezels, model-specific 20-inch wheel, a rear diffuser, and your choice of either black or red brake calipers that complete this understated exterior package.
2022 G80 SPORT INTERIOR
Moving to the interior of the 2022 G80, we see that the standar two-spoke steering wheel has been swapped with the GV70’s three-spoke unit, including the programmable “Favorites” button. Leather trim and aluminum accents are the typical standard with Genesis, but the 2022 G80 fashions black nappa leather seats and the perfect amount of real carbon fiber around the cabin. Better yet, the quilted pattern on the leather seats can be swapped out for a V pattern which is a clever addition from Genesis considering no other automaker is doing this. The technological aspect of this model is anything but lacking. Having 3D graphics in the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system that’s easily navigable, really adds the final touch to this well-known luxury brand.
