It’s no surprise that electric vehicles are taking the automotive industry by storm. Car manufacturers all across the world have been trying to keep up with this new phenomenon, manufacturing their own versions of the electric car, and Genesis is no exception. Genesis has thrown their hat into the electric car ring, with the GV60 EV. The first GV60 in the United States was delivered to a very happy customer in Santa Monica, California. But why is this such a big deal in the automotive industry? Keep reading below to get all the deets provided by us, Genesis of Edmond.
THE GV60 HITS THE UNITED STATES
Patricia Wayne from Los Angeles, California was the first person to receive the GV60 in the United States. She purchased it from Genesis Santa Monica and had been looking forward to the release of this car for almost a year. “I wanted to be part of the next generation of luxury EVs,” said Wayne. “I like to think that the GV60 has evolved the basic function of electric cars into a new kind of sustainable luxury.” To commemorate this exciting occasion, Genesis Motor America and Genesis Santa Monica jointly donated $20,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Santa Monica. Now that’s iconic!
2022 GENESIS GV60
The GV60 is a strikingly high-tech and luxurious SUV. There are many elements that make it one of the best cars on the market. It has a vehicle-entry facial recognition system that allows you to unlock your car by just touching the door handle and looking at the camera on your car. The GV60 also allows you to create a personalized driver profile that you can access with touch of your finger. The car comes with the Genesis Digital Key 2, which is a keyless entry system. With this system, you can unlock, lock, stop or start your car with your phone. You can simply hold your phone against the driver-door handle and once you are inside, you place your phone in the wireless charging tray, press the start button and you are good to go.
This system also allows you to share a digital key to the car with three other users. The other users will have access to their own driver profiles, where they can customize the driver-seat and mirror position, climate in the car, and audio preferences. The design of the GV60 is absolutely stunning. It has a vision roof with a power sunshade, Nappa leather seats, a seamless clamshell hood, two line headlamps, flush door handles, and slimline seats. The GV60 also has a shift dial that turns into a beautiful crystal sphere when the motor is turned off. It emphasizes Genesis’ dedication to integrating beauty and functionality. All this luxury and we haven’t even gotten under the hood!
GENESIS GV60 SHOP TALK
This car looks good, but it performs even better. It has a 429 horsepower motor, which is considerably high for an electric car. It comes with Eco mode, Comfort mode, Sport mode, Snow mode and Boost mode. Boost mode gives you a temporary boost in power, and it can get up to 483 horsepower. The car has a low center of gravity and great handling, so it is ready to take on any road. The GV60 has an extremely fast charging capability. Just five minutes of charging can give you 60 miles. It takes roughly 18 minutes to get from 10% to 80%.
It has an estimated range of 248 miles on a fully charged battery. While charging the car, the GV60 has a Relaxation Seat Function, which fully reclines the driver’s seat and extends the footrests so you can be at ease while you wait for the car to be charged. Genesis is very proud of how well this car looks and performs. “The GV60 is the first dedicated EV model with the most dynamic design, representing Genesis’ electrification. It will set a new standard for luxury electric vehicles with a powerful driving performance and various key features which are emotionally connected to customers.” said Jay Chang, the Global Head of the Genesis brand. The GV60 is the full package and has set a great precedent for the future of electric vehicles.
GENESIS GV60 SAFETY
Genesis puts a high priority on safety. The GV60 has an advanced suite of security systems that ensure that you are safe when you are in the car. One of the impressive safety features is the Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist (RCCA). This system can detect if there is another vehicle coming up behind you when you are backing out of a parking spot. It also will provide audio and visual warnings and will brake for you if it detects that a collision could occur.
Blind Spot Assistance Collision avoidance assist is another helpful security feature. This feature is activated when you use the turn signal, it checks for potentially unseen hazards and alerts the driver if there is anything they may not see. This paired with the Blind Spot View Monitor, which gives you a live view of your blind spot, gives everyone in the car an extra level of security.

GENESIS X EVOLVES

- Auto brand Genesis has released the newest version of Genesis X: Speedium Coupe.
- The Speedium Coupe overall is an elevated version of the Genesis X, having received an upgraded exterior design, a luxurious interior, and even a slight performance upgrade.
- Find the Speedium Coupe and the Genesis X for sale at Genesis of Edmond.
Luxury car brand Genesis has rolled out a new version of their concept car and have named it the “Speedium Coupe”. The original concept was released in 2021 and was called the Genesis X, but the new and improved version has caught the attention of car fanatics. Though it is just a concept car and Genesis has not suggested that they plan to actually produce the car, it is a good indicator of the direction Genesis wants to go with its car designs.
WHAT IS GENESIS X?
The original Genesis X design was a hallmark of the Genesis brand and style. The sleekness of the car aligns perfectly with the look Genesis has curated over the years. The color of the Genesis X was Lençóis Blue, inspired by the lagoons of Maranhenses National Park in Brazil. The color was made to showcase the brand’s dedication to pursuing sustainable luxury. The front of the car had a shield shaped Crest Grille, which the Genesis stated “represents the brand’s inherent dignity and pride.” It also had an impressive double-layered bumper.
The two-lined headlamps are a major element of the car’s overall design. The tail lights and the digital side mirror also follow the two line design, making the look of the car very cohesive. The back of the car incorporated the shape of a horseshoe. The interior is just as impressive as the exterior. With a floating dashboard and console and contrasting seat colors for the driver and passenger, the attention to detail and commitment to luxury design is evident.
WHAT IS DIFFERENT IN THE GENESIS SPEEDIUM COUPE?
The Speedium Coupe expands on the design of the Genesis X and was born out of a freestyle design exercise. The name of the concept is a reference to a racetrack in South Korea. Luc Donckerwolke, Genesis’ Chief Creative Officer claimed that this concept is ” a look into our design processes as we explore ideas for the next wave of EVs, one that incorporates Genesis’ DNA.” In designing this concept, Genesis adhered to the principle of reductive design, which is meant to follow a “less is more” mindset. The concept car is emerald green.
The specific name of the color is Inje Green, a reference to the mountainous landscape of the area where the racetrack car gets its name from. This design has done away with the Crest Grille that was an imperative part of the Genesis X’s look. Instead, the two-line headlamps evolved into a full-width element that outlines the triangular shape of the Grille. It has an EV face that is meant to symbolize Genesis’ goal of becoming an all-electric car brand.
Crest Grille
The erasure of the Crest Grille is another component of the intention to transition to electric vehicles, as EVs do not need grilles. Where the Genesis X had a completely smooth horseshoe shape for its rear design, the Speedium Coupe has a V-shaped brake light that interrupts the circular shape of its rear, in order to create contrast. The daytime running lamps have been integrated with the high beams and turn signals, a deliberate design to help carry the brand’s wing face for the electrification era.
From the top down, the car has an hourglass silhouette, giving it a sportier look. The side of the car has a Parabolic Line that extends from the front of the car to the end of it, a feature that is typical in classic cars. It has an anti-wedge design that enhances the elegance of the look of the car. This elevated concept points to an exciting future for Genesis and the electrification era.
GENESIS OF EDMOND
Both the Speedium Coupe and Genesis X are indicative of Genesis’ commitment to continually advance and improve their designs and products. Even though they are just concept cars, there are still so many amazing Genesis vehicles that are available to you now. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has named the entire 2022 lineup of Genesis vehicles a IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating. Safety and performance are of the utmost importance to Genesis.
Here at Genesis of Edmond, we aim to provide you with a seamless car buying experience. Whether you’re looking for a stylish sedan or a dependable SUV, we’ve got you covered. 2023 GENESIS G90 – A PEEK INTO THE FUTURE

- The 2023 Genesis G90 has received improvements and upgrades from the 2022 model and has been named the flagship of Genesis.
- The exterior of the 2023 Genesis G90 keeps the classic elegant style branding in a new lineup of colors, and the interior boasts new technology, panoramic sunroofs, fingerprint authentication, and so much more.
- The Genesis G90 is for sale at Genesis of Edmond in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Sporty, elegant, minimalistic, and redefining luxury. What we just described is only the tip of the iceberg that is the 2023 Genesis G90. The 2023 G90 has exceeded the 2022 G90 and the expectations of car gurus nationwide as well as being named the flagship of the automaker. The 2023 Genesis G90 release date has not been confirmed yet, but we suspect it will be released early 2023 since the G60 is to be released Spring of 2022. We also suspect that the price range for the 2023 G90 will be in the $70,000-$80,000 neighborhood. But until we know any further 2023 G90 release date and price details, let’s take a look at how this sedan is able to encompass a sporty, elegant, minimalist and newly defining luxurious image.
EXTERIOR
Going along with this automaker’s signature elegant style branding, the 2023 G90 keeps the classic thin, two-line headlamp and taillight design while getting a newly crested grille on the face. Moving to the back of the 2023 G90 exterior, automakers have lowered the license plate, reverse lights, and the sensors, as a way to create a more minimalistic design. The wheels have also received a facelift, tying together the exterior for an overall elegant and sporty sedan.
It’s the best of both worlds, and the interior is even better! One last thing we’re going to touch on the exterior is all the talk about the new colors which include Hallasan Green, Capri Blue, Bariloche Brown, Valencia Gold, and Maui Black are all going to be exclusive to the 2023 G90. The previous G90 colors, Makalu Gray, Vik Black, Tasman Blue, Savile Silver, Uyuni White, Makalu Gray Matte, and Verbier White will also all be available.
INTERIOR
The interior of the Genesis 2023 G90 has features that will make you not want to leave your car. The automakers have successfully brought the sporty and elegant exterior design to the interior as well, leaving even us saying, Wow! Are you kidding?! The backseats are just as luxurious as the front, making this THE car to be chauffeured around in. So far, the 2023 G90 interior features include:
- Front panoramic sunroof
- Back panoramic sunroof
- All seats allow you to recline separately
- Back seat mood lamps
- Key fob that automatically deploys the flush door handles
- Button inside that closes your doors for you
- Fingerprint authentication that can start your car in the case of losing your keys
- 10.2-inch rear infotainment touch screen
- Infotainment touch screen in the front
- Rear heating and air system controls
- 26 speaker surround sound audio system
- Electric curtains
- Fragrance system
- Adjustable ambient lights
- Seat massagers
If that list doesn’t scream luxury then we don’t know what does.
Performance
The elements of the Genesis G90 of 2021, 2022, and 2023 are all very similar. However, the G90 2023 sedan will not have the V8 that is offered now, but like many other things we suspect, we suspect that it will have a hybrid system that will boost its V6 to just as much power as the V8. Aside from that, though, there is a 3.5-liter turbo engine that makes 375 horsepower, multiple cooling systems so as to improve the acceleration and responsiveness of the engine and brake performance.
It also will have a suspension system that uses a camera and is able to identify road conditions and potholes, making adjustments along the drive. Genesis: adapting with what the government won’t fix, pretty nice. We’re not done yet, though. The 2023 Genesis G90 will have multi-chamber air suspension that lowers at higher speeds and raises on rougher roads, all for the sake of damage protection and to cut down vibrations. There will also be rear wheel steering, laminated glass, and an active noise control system. What more could you possibly want?

Finally, a stand-alone Genesis dealership has opened in the U.S.. The automaker has and continues to work towards an identity not linked to Hyundai, and buyers can now receive the full Genesis dealership experience.
GENESIS OF LAFAYETTE LEADS THE WAY
Since Genesis’ release (over a decade ago), in order to buy a Genesis you had to visit a Hyundai dealer. At long last, that time is coming to an end.
Last month, Genesis opened its first stand-alone store in Lafayette, Louisiana and dubbed it Genesis of Lafayette. This dealership is just the beginning of Genesis stand-alone locations across the country.
By the end of the year, two more locations will be opened by the end of the year: a dealership in Cherry Hill, New Jersey and a permanent location in Santa Monica, California, to replace the temporary location already operating there.
Apart from the two locations set to be finished by 2023, Genesis also is pursuing the construction of six more locations in the United States- with an additional 20 in the planning stages. With the creation of stand-alone Genesis dealers popping up across the country, the company settles even further into its spot among luxury elite automotive brands.
THE ROAD TO INDEPENDENCE
Genesis was born as an element of Hyundai’s line-up in 2004: when the Hyundai Genesis was released. The model was the crown jewel of Hyundai until the Equus arrived a short time later. The Genesis and the Equus were christened as the automaker’s luxury products until 2015, when Hyundai decided to spin off Genesis as its own luxury brand, which came to the U.S. in 2016.
To mark Genesis’ independence, the Hyundai Genesis became the Genesis G80. While the U.S. launch of Genesis did not necessarily make a huge splash in the market, it did garner a great deal of critical acclaim for its exterior design and technologically advanced interiors and systems.
The G80 was followed by the G90. Next came the G70, which won the North American Car of the Year award in 2019. In 2009, the Hyundai Genesis was honored as the Car of the Year, while the Genesis G80 was a finalist in 2021.
With the introduction of its two SUVs, the GV80 and GV70 Genesis has continued to attract positive attention. The two new SUV crossovers were honored as finalists for the Utility of the Year award in both 2021 and 2022. Presently, Genesis is embracing the future with the new GV60- a small battery-electric crossover. The anticipated GV60 is forecasted to show up in dealerships- both stand-alone and jointly owned- sometime later this year.
MORE ON GENESIS DEALERSHIPS
Joining the previously mentioned locations, Genesis stores are planned to be built in Greer, South Carolina; Cerritos and Corona, California; and more. With so many locations opening, we still want to take this time to shine light on Genesis’ first stand-alone store in the United States: Genesis of Lafayette. Said location is owned and operated by Sterling Automotive Group and dealer principal Arthur C. LeBlanc Jr.
The Lafayette location features unmistakable brand elements, a transparent and open floor plan, an indoor vehicle delivery area, and infrastructure to support the upcoming set of electric Genesis models. Additionally, customers and buyers are welcomed into an all-new showroom of award-winning Genesis vehicles.
Reflecting the luxury vehicles being shown, unique design elements are on full display in the first stand-alone Genesis location. For example, a private brand cube offers a peaceful environment, where clients can review material samples, vehicle specifications and more. Genesis of Lafayette is owned and operated by Sterling Automotive Group and dealer principal Arthur C. LeBlanc Jr.
“We are glad to partner with Arthur LeBlanc and Sterling Automotive Group on our first standalone retail facility in the United States”, announced Claudia Marquez, chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America. “I want to extend my thanks to the entire Sterling Automotive Group for creating a space beautifully designed and so befitting of our remarkable products.”
Genesis Of Edmond Car Dealership
No matter how many locations open up across the country, Genesis of Lafayette will continue to be an extremely important dealership and a beacon of light for the brand, as it marks the true independence of Genesis, and serves as the ideal model for future Genesis stores. If you are looking to buy a Genesis a little closer to home, contact Genesis of Edmond today with any questions or inquiries you have by calling us at 877-495-2032, or stopping by our dealership at 14137 N. Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, OK 73013.
WHAT’S NEW WITH THE 2022 GENESIS SEDANS

- The 2022 Genesis lineup includes the Genesis G70, G80, and G90.
- There were no major updates for any of the 2022 Genesis models, except the G70 has a brand new exterior appearance.
- Find the 2022 Genesis models for sale at Genesis of Edmond.
Genesis cars are always receiving accolades and attention, but this season the brand’s SUVs have stolen the show. The debut of the GV70 compact SUV and the GV60 subcompact SUV have placed the Korean luxury brand’s SUVs in the spotlight. However, we want to remind you of the brand’s high-quality sedans – which are coming back refreshed for 2022. Sedans such as the 2019 Car of the Year-winning G70 and specific variants of the midsize G80 are returning to the stage this year and ready to make a splash. So, let’s dive into what has changed for Genesis’ sedans for 2022.
2022 G70
The G70 already had a strong foundation- strong enough to win the 2019 Car of the Year trophy- but now, it has the styling to stand out from the crowd. Undergoing a dramatic makeover for 2022, the 2022 Genesis G70 finally receives the design language that had already been implemented on the G80, GV80, and G90. The sedan will boast all new front and rear end styling, such as the angular chainmail mesh grille flanked on either side by distinctive twin-bar headlights and twin-bar tail lights mirror that look at the rear end.
In terms of the interior, the materials are high-quality and truly luxurious. The pre-refresh model’s 0.8-inch center infotainment display is replaced with the wide-format 10.3-inch touchscreen. Sporting clean, high resolution graphics and intuitive software, the infotainment system includes capability for over-the-air updates.
The powertrain options remain basically the same, with only one change to write home about. The 2022 G70 can house the same 2.0-liter turbo-four and 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 options as the last model, however, the four-cylinder’s manual transmission option is no longer available. Additionally, there’s a new Sport+ setting with louder exhaust, more lenient traction and stability sections, and heavier steering.
2022 G80
In 2022, the G80 comes with one huge addition: the comeback of the G80 Sport. Pulling from the previous generation of the G80 Sport, the 2022 Genesis G80 sports subtle styling cues to set itself apart from the rest of the lineup, such as a unique font fascia, dark exterior trim, and trim-specific 21-inch wheels which are also available on the G70.
The interior is impressive as well, with the G80 Sport’s three-spoke steering wheel, aluminum or carbon-fiber interior trim, and Sport-specific seat quilting. The material quality is outstanding, with a cabin that emanates a tech-rich, high-luxury feel.
The refreshed Sport model operates with the same 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 as the original G80. However, the all-wheel drive is standard, the suspension is returned, and Genesis has rear-wheel steering available.
2022 G90
Genesis didn’t make any changes to its full-size sedan for 2022. The G90 was first introduced for the 2017 model year, and received a mid cycle refresh for 2020. The Genesis G90 was Genesis’ first model that featured the now-predominant pentagonal shield front grille.
Genesis’ largest four-door is a classic. The vehicle’s ride quality achieves a floaty feeling, without being disconnected, and its styling is sharp and distinctive. This sedan is easy to love and has a great feature-per-dollar value.

GENESIS EV – THE FUTURE OF ELECTRIC CARS

In 2025, a decade after Genesis branched off from its parent company Hyundai, the luxury car brand will completely reinvent itself. Coming after the reveal of the GV60 crossover – Genesis’ first electric model – the brand announced its EV only vision.
GENESIS EV EXPECTATIONS
Becoming the first Hyundai-owned car brand to declare a full transition to electric vehicles, Genesis accelerates towards the future much faster than many of its competitors. In a YouTube channel released by the brand, Genesis laid out its plans for the future and announced its electrification strategy.
By the year 2025, the luxury car company strives to have completely phased out internal combustion cars- fully transitioning to electric vehicles. This transition is kickstarted by the anticipated arrival of the GV60, Genesis’ first all-electric SUV. Next in the strategy, is the zero-emission goal. By 2030, Genesis aims to become fully zero-emission. And finally, the last part of the strategy points to the brand becoming carbon-neutral by 2035. The goals are daring, to say the least, but Genesis has carefully laid out the framework and necessities to make this happen, including reorganizing its entire value chain: from raw materials and auto parts to the operation of the work sites.
Genesis doesn’t stop there, though. The automaker announced a “dual electrification” strategy, claiming that “Genesis will put an effort on developing pure electric technologies such as new fuel cell systems with higher power output, and electric systems that help improve efficiency. In addition, Genesis will devote itself to building next-generation technology that draws better performance and efficiency from lithium-ion batteries.”
GENESIS EV DARING TO BE DIFFERENT
Genesis, in the video it released, proved that the brand isn’t afraid to stand out from the crowd. Planning to “continue to design a new dimension of customer experience and build an authentic relationship with our customers”, Jay Chang, the global head of Genesis promises that the brand will “take audacious steps to lead the age of electrification into the sustainable future.”
Appearing alongside Chang in the video, the chief creative officer at Genesis, Luc Donckerwolke, claimed the new electric lineup of Genesis “is the perfect platform to increase our interface with our customers.”
“We aim to interact with all their senses. Our new architecture will integrate audacious technologies and breathtaking designs while providing sincere detail-oriented experiences. Warm and exquisite care will be our differentiator.” he said, asserting that Genesis will set itself apart from any rivals or competitors in this new age.
BY 2025…
Of course, don’t expect non-electric cars to have disappeared from all Genesis dealerships by 2025. Traditional Genesis vehicles will remain in production for a few years after 2025, so there will still be some gas-engine models available for purchase. However, do expect more and more electric models to be released from Genesis before 2025 and, obviously, after. 2030, the year Genesis aims to attain zero-emissions, is when gas-engine models are predicted to stop production. By then, Genesis plans to have a range of eight electric car models, with the goal to accomplish sales of 400,000 units per year.
THE GENESIS EV
Though 2025 is a few years away, buyers can expect the GV60, Genesis’ first all-electric SUV, to arrive in the spring of this year. “Created for those with a vision of the future, being now” according to the automaker, the GV60 will ensure that the most beloved features of previous Genesis models- the elegant and sleek design, comfortable and spacious interior, and impressive technology- will be present in the new electric model.
So many exciting things are happening in Genesis’ future, and at Genesis of Edmond, we want you to join in on the excitement. As the GV60 is set to be released – and arrive in our dealership – soon, please don’t hesitate to ask us for any questions or inquiries you may have.
We are here to be a resource for you, whatever you may need, because we want our customers to have the best experience possible!
Give us a call at 877-495-2032, or stop by our dealership: We are located at 14137 N. Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, OK 73013. Don’t forget to look at our online inventory of Genesis cars. We look forward to hearing from you!

- The Genesis GV60 is a first of its kind in the United States, offering a blend of features from both Hyundai and Kia.
- Being a fully electric platform, the GV60 price starts at $55,000 and goes up from there depending on other specifications.
- Find the Genesis GV60 for sale at Genesis of Edmond in Oklahoma.
The upcoming design of the Genesis GV60 Electric Crossover has finally been revealed. Many are pleased with the new design as it features a mix of both Hyundai and Kia ideas. The new design features a fully electric platform which is new and upcoming as well as the luxury feel that customers love. This vehicle has all new features including a floating console, crystal ball gear shift, facial recognition system as well as a fingerprint system. When it hits the market, it will become the brand’s third SUV and will be the first of its kind. United States deliveries are said to start in 2022. The starting price is expected to be around $55,000 which will make it direct rivals with a few other vehicles on the market.
CHARGING AND BATTERY LIFE
Genesis has stated that the rear-wheel drive 2022 Genesis GV60 will offer a surprising 280 miles per charge making it extremely appealing to buyers. All versions of the GV60 come with the 77.4-kWh battery pack. Another charging feature included in this vehicle is battery conditioning. When the battery temperature is low, the battery will preheat to ensure drivers that their charging time will be shortened. This feature can be viewed on the dash and allows drivers to enhance their battery conditions. Drivers can also use features that allow drivers to search for charging stations nearby on the navigation. The dual motor has 429 hp and claims a 0-62 mph in approximately 4 seconds. Genesis is also claiming that this model offers the most range.
EXTERIOR DESIGN
The GV60 includes a few popular features that are also seen on some past Genesis models. The sleek silhouette and planned out design gives drivers the experience they are looking for that will best fit their lifestyle. It has been designed with an impressive 800-volt electrical system as well as a fast charging battery system. The 2022 Genesis GV60 also includes a fastback design which is most apparent when viewed from the side. The door handles automatically expand when the driver approaches the car. The front design features Two Lines lamps and the Genesis signature Crest Grille is located at a lower position. At the rear of the vehicle, the signature Two Lines lamps can also be found.
INTERIOR DESIGN
Inside, Genesis strategically designed this vehicle with its Beauty of White Space Design philosophy. The interior is extremely spacious, and it includes features such as a floating center console, sleek dash layout, and Genesis’s traditional dash designs seen in other models. The crystal sphere is located by the gear shift. This sphere is built to give the driver mood lighting when the vehicle is turned off which adds to the true aesthetic of this car.
Another interesting feature is that users will be able to drive and unlock the Genesis GV60 with no key. Using facial recognition, the vehicle will have the ability to recognize drivers. The face connect camera is hidden in the B-pillar of the vehicle. A fingerprint scanner is also located at the front of the center console and can be used to unlock the vehicle. Genesis says that the interior is also made from recycled materials such as plastic bottles.

GENESIS GV70 – THE 2022 MOTORTREND SUV OF THE YEAR

When it comes to competition, there is nothing like that moment when you are announced the winner. The team at Genesis got that very moment when the GV70 was announced as the 2022 MotorTrend SUV of the Year. Not bad for an SUV in its first year of production. There are plenty of reasons why this Genesis SUV should win but there is also a lot of competition that has been producing high quality SUVs for much longer.
The Genesis GV70 provides proof that you should try a new vehicle before everyone else does. Genesis does an excellent job of combining the luxury feel of the brand with the practicality of driving an SUV. This is not easy to do and other SUV manufacturers have not fared as well as achieving these superior results. Let’s take a look at why this first year SUV took the high honors above everyone else.
DESIGN ADVANCEMENTS
If you haven’t seen a GV70 in person (or any other Genesis), you really should. From first look, it won’t be hard to see why jaws drop. The luxurious look to the car will instantly provide you with a sense of class. When you look a little closer, you will see where Genesis took some risks to the design that may have hindered it but ended up working beautifully.
One example is the hood of the car. If you look closely, you will see that the hood actually extends over the grille. This was included to make it easier to access the engine compartment but designed so well, you probably wouldn’t notice. Another example is the rear brake light. This light is positioned in the top position of the rear window and angled in such a way that you cannot possibly miss it when engaged. It’s this kind of engineering that helped push the Genesis GV70 to the top.
Interior
The interior is also very intelligently designed for both comfort and safety. The interior sports a “ovaloid” theme that extends from the pedals to the map lights. Not to mention the infotainment screen is pretty amazing too. Standard on all GV70’s is a 14.5 inch, rotating infotainment screen that is positioned in such a way that it reduces the glare on the windshield at night. Every piece of the GV70 was carefully designed by looking at every little detail to make sure this SUV is not only safe, but ultra luxurious.
DRIVABILITY OF THE GENESIS GV70
The GV70 comes with either a 2.5T or 3.5T engine, eight-speed automatic transmission, and AWD. This helps this SUV to drive more like a car than it does an SUV which many consumers prefer. In fact, you will have the power of 375 horses pulling you and your family around. The torque is nothing to laugh at either with 391lbs-ft of torque. All this power and yet very quiet while running. Another engineering feat.
PRICE AND VALUE
Genesis, like it’s parent company Hyundai, is really setting the standard for features in a car comparative to price. The Genesis is loaded with features without you feeling like you are sitting in the cockpit of the Starship Enterprise. With all of these features, you would almost expect to also see a high price tag. Get ready to be surprised as the GV70 starts at $42,045! Yes, just over $42,000 to get into this luxury SUV. To compare, the GMC Yukon starts at $50,700 and the Porsche Cayenne starts at $67,500. AND, you don’t get nearly the number of technology and safety features on either of these vehicles.
Don’t forget about the Genesis warranty which is one of the best warranties for any car maker. A 5 year, 60,000 mile basic warranty and a complimentary maintenance warranty of 3 year, 36,000 miles comes standard with all Genesis GV70s. You even get a 3 year, 36,000 mile free Service Valet where a member of Genesis of Edmond will come and pick your car up for service maintenance, perform the work, and then drop it back off to you (some exclusions apply). It’s all part of the Genesis Experience. This luxury service really sets the Genesis brand apart from all other luxury brands.
MOTORTREND DIDN’T GET IT WRONG
This was only a small look into why the 2022 Genesis GV70 won MotorTrends SUV of the Year award for 2022. There are plenty more that went into the overall design, drive, comfort, and safety of this vehicle that sets this Genesis SUV apart from other SUVs. This coveted award from MotorTrend was easily given to the 2022 GV70 and hopefully will inspire the industry to up their game.

The 2021 Genesis G80 is once again a winner of the IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus award. This makes three years running for the G80! With this year’s honor, Genesis models have swept the IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus awards with the G70, GV80, G90, and now the G80 winning this top coveted award. What does this mean? This means that all of the Genesis models have been awarded as the safest vehicles on the road! This is an honor for the Genesis brand.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TOP SAFETY PICK AND TOP SAFETY PICK PLUS AWARDS
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick (TSP) and Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) awards are given to vehicles that perform above and beyond in crash testing and other evaluations. TSP awards were first awarded in 2006, while tougher TSP+ awards were first announced in 2013. In 2020, the qualifications were upped again, with even tougher standards for both TSP and TSP+ awards. Due to these stricter requirements, the list of 2020 TSP+ award winners was noticeably shorter than the list of 2019 winners.
TOP SAFETY PICK AWARD
To win the IIHS Top Safety Pick award, a vehicle must pass 4 different tests with at least a “good” rating in each category. The first test is the impact to a crash test dummy. A crash test dummy is set up with sensors & paint to measure how impactful a crash is to a passenger. To score well in this category, the crash test dummy must have as little impact as possible to receive the best score. The second test is remaining survival space after a crash.
The more space a person has after a crash, the higher the score will be. The third test tests the airbags checking to see if the airbags deploy as well as have enough space to deploy properly. The fourth test is the effectiveness of the seat belts, especially how well the seat belt does in keeping the crash test dummy in place. The overall rating is based upon vehicle to vehicle collision.
TOP SAFETY PICK PLUS AWARD
For 2021 TSP+ award, the criteria has been even more stringent. First, a vehicle must have an “advanced” rating in each of the tests as well as an “advanced” rating in all categories for vehicle to pedestrian collision and collision prevention. On top of that, there must be crash prevention technology as well as upgraded headlights for safety. It is tough to win the TSP+ award so a tested vehicle really needs to have a safety first mentality.

GENESIS ELECTRIFIED G80: SAME LOOK, NEW PERFORMANCE
Since the beginning of the Genesis’ G80 series, the family has taken quite a name for itself in luxury sedans that are more than capable of providing a luxurious ride. And with a list of new vehicles coming out this current and upcoming year, Genesis is hoping to hit the home run on being your #1 choice for you and your garage. The first member to be introduced in this new “industry breaking family” just so happens to be the all-new electric G80. While it has yet to be fully released, Genesis’ new luxury sedan is expected to turn out impressive track results and competitive prices that will make it a top contender for your consideration.
PERFORMANCE THAT DOESN’T SKIMP ON COMFORTABILITY
One of the most fundamental benefits of electric vehicles is the fact that they receive instant power to the wheels and motors when hitting the gas pedal. This instant power allows vehicles like the 2022 Genesis G80 to receive 0-60mph track times that clock in under 5 seconds! Yeah, those numbers are real.
Information is unclear so far on how many motors will be included and what the battery specifications will be turn out to be, however if they electrified G80 turns out to be anything similar to Genesis’ other upcoming EVs, the model is going to carry a fairly decent sized battery that will offer a minimum of 265 miles of range or more. 19-inch alloy wheels mixed with a highly aerodynamic body profile will also make the EG80 perfect for high speeds and sudden movement.
One selling point Genesis is excited to inform the public about is the vehicle’s 2-way power capabilities, which allows the 2022 Genesis G80 to also charge third-party devices when you plug them into the car. This isn’t the only fun high-tech included either, active noise cancellation has been installed to eliminate high and low frequencies that are known to cause common symptoms like nausea, headaches, ears popping, and more.
ANY EXTERIOR UPDATES?
Not much is said to have been done with the overall design and exterior/interior aesthetics of the vehicle compared to the non-electric model. Similar to the previous models, the slim, two-tone headlights, low-profile body, chrome accents, and diamond-crest grille will be integrated into the chassis, perfect for how Genesis is trying to streamline their designs across their fleets. Genesis also states the interior is now utilized with a vast majority of more recycled materials, great news for all those eco-friendly consumers who want a product that makes a difference.
FUEL CONSUMPTION & CHARGING
As said before, more data is still needed to provide accurate results to you on fuel consumption and such, however we are expecting to see a minimum of 265 miles total for range on this year’s model. Similar to some other car brands, Genesis may be able to increase this overall range and even the top speed through a list of Over-The-Air (OTA) updates. We’ll have to wait for more information on that one.
Genesis is well aware of the lack of battery technology available for modern day cars, and knew exactly how to conquer the issue until better batteries arrive, thus improved charging. According to Genesis, the electrified G80 is capable of reaching from 10% to 80% in less than 18 minutes.
